Vaquilla blanca

The pig, also scientifically known as Sus scrofa domestica, is a subspecies of artiodactyl mammal of the Suidae family, which is estimated to have originated in the Middle East about 13,000 years ago with parallel developments in China. Some historical records highlight the introduction of the Asian pig in the area of Europe in the period between the 18th and 19th centuries, which contributed to the improvement of European breeds.

Although there is a progressive adaptation of the breeds on each continent, the different breeds developed in the case of America are usually characterized by rapid growth and maturation with short gestation periods and large litters, having an average lifespan between 10 and 15 years. Specifically in the case of Venezuela, the Creole pig is characterized by being a homogeneous population, located mainly in the States of Apure and Guárico, it has a genetic variability that enriches its commercial germplasm, since it usually takes advantage of the resources of the available ecosystem, being highly resistant to diseases and with a high degree of rusticity.
